How to Check T-Shirt Sleeve Length and Opening
Sleeve length and opening width change how a t-shirt looks on the arm. Measuring them the same way each time keeps your size chart reliable.
Measure sleeve length
Lay the shirt flat and smooth it out. Measure from the shoulder seam, along the top of the sleeve, to the hem. If your chart uses a different method, such as from the centre back, keep that method for every size.
Measure the sleeve opening
Measure straight across the hem of the sleeve, then double it if you need the full circumference. Do not stretch the fabric while measuring.
What to look for
- Length that is consistent from size to size.
- An opening that is not so tight it marks the arm.
- An opening that is not so loose it flares.
- Left and right sleeves that match.

Check the hem finish
The hem should lie flat, with even stitching and no twisting. Rolling or stretching after a wash may point to fabric or stitch issues.
Use a tolerance
Agree an acceptable difference, for example a few millimetres either way, so your inspector knows when to pass or fail a unit.
