How to Check Training Shorts Waistband Security
A waistband that slips or digs in becomes a problem quickly during exercise. A short routine of checks can show how a pair will behave.
Check the construction
Look at how the elastic is attached and whether the waistband fabric is stable. The stitching should be even, with no twisting or rolled edges.
Measure and recover
- Measure the relaxed waistband width.
- Stretch it to a comfortable fit and measure again.
- Release and check that it returns to its original size.
Drawcord and fastening
If there is a drawcord, check that it is anchored, so it does not pull out. The knot or tips should be secure.

Run a movement test
- Squats and lunges.
- Jogging or jumping on the spot.
- Bending and reaching overhead.
The waistband should not roll, slide down or leave deep marks.
Look at inner finish
Check that the inside of the waistband is smooth against the skin and that no raw elastic edges are exposed.
Wash and re-test
Repeat the checks after washing to see whether the elastic holds up.
