How to Store Hoodies Between Seasons
Store hoodies only when they are clean and fully dry. Fold them in a way that supports the hood and avoids sharp pressure on prints or fastenings, then place them in a clean, dry storage area. Follow the garment’s care instructions before any cleaning or treatment.
Inspect before storage
Empty every pocket and check for stains, food, dampness or objects. Look at the cuffs, hood, drawcords, zip and decorated areas. Address repair needs separately from cleaning so a loose component is not made worse in the wash.
Do not apply fragrance, household chemicals or pest treatments directly to the garment unless the product and care instructions specifically support that use.
Clean according to the label
Wash or professionally clean the hoodie as directed. New stains can become harder to identify after months in storage, but an unsuitable cleaning method can also damage the garment. Allow thick seams, rib, pockets and the hood to dry completely.
Choose folding or hanging deliberately
Folding is often practical for heavy hoodies because it avoids placing long-term weight on the shoulders. Close a zip gently, lay the hoodie flat, arrange the hood without crushing it and fold sleeves across the body. Avoid folding a raised print or embroidery under a hard zip pull.
If the care and construction support hanging, use a broad hanger and ensure the shoulders are not being pushed into points. Do not overload a rail so tightly that the hood and decoration are compressed.
Select a suitable location
- Use a clean, dry space away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid areas with known dampness or large temperature swings.
- Keep the garment away from sharp hardware or rough surfaces.
- Use a clean breathable cover where appropriate rather than sealing in unnoticed moisture.
Label without attaching damaging materials
If several hoodies are stored together, label the shelf or container instead of taping paper directly to fabric. Keep sets or sample versions identified by a separate inventory card. For a business, distinguish saleable stock, samples and damaged items.
Check periodically
Inspect the storage area and garments during the season rather than forgetting them until needed. If you find moisture, odour or pests, isolate affected items and identify the source before returning anything to storage.
Prepare for use
Unfold the hoodie and allow it to relax. Check the care label before steaming or pressing; prints and synthetic trims may require different handling from the main fabric.

Keep a simple storage record
For retail stock or samples, note the storage date, location and last inspection. A small record helps staff rotate checks and prevents boxes from being moved without their contents being traced.
