How to Fold and Store T-Shirts to Prevent Creases
Good storage keeps t-shirts looking fresh and prevents stretching, deep creases and musty smells. A few simple habits make the difference.
Start clean and dry
Store t-shirts only after they are fully dry and clean. Damp fabric can develop odours, and body oils left in the fibres may cause marks over time.
Fold, do not hang, in most cases
Hanging can stretch the shoulders of knit fabrics, especially in heavier shirts. Folding is usually better for everyday t-shirts.
A simple fold
- Lay the shirt flat, front side down.
- Fold each side in towards the centre.
- Fold the sleeves back over the body.
- Fold the bottom up to the collar.

Stack with care
- Keep stacks to a sensible height.
- Place heavier items below lighter ones.
- Do not overfill drawers.
Think about the environment
Use a cool, dry space with some airflow. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade colours.
For longer storage
Use breathable cotton or fabric bags rather than sealed plastic, and check periodically.
