How to Check Denim Stitching Quality
Stitching holds jeans together, so small faults often show up as the first signs of wear. A careful look at the seams tells you a lot about how the pair will last.
Stitch density
Count stitches over a short length, such as an inch or two centimetres, and compare across samples. Very loose stitching may open under strain, while very tight stitching can pucker the fabric.
Key areas to inspect
- Inseam and outseam.
- Crotch and back rise seam.
- Pocket corners and openings.
- Belt loops and waistband joins.
- Hems and cuffs.
Look for reinforcement
Stress points such as pocket corners, fly base and belt loops should have bar tacks or rivets. Check that they are placed neatly and do not cut the fabric.

Check consistency
Stitch lines should be straight, with even spacing and no skipped or broken stitches. Thread colour should match the style, and thread ends should be trimmed cleanly.
Do a gentle pull test
Pull the seam sideways with moderate force. It should not open or show gaps between the fabric layers.
Record what you find
Note faults with photos so you can compare against the approved sample and raise issues before bulk goods ship.
