How to Assess Jogger Taper and Ankle Fit
The taper of a jogger is how much the leg narrows from thigh to ankle. A good taper looks clean without feeling restrictive.
Measure key points
- Thigh width.
- Knee width.
- Leg opening or cuff width, relaxed.
Compare these numbers with the approved sample and between sizes to check that the shape is consistent.
Check the transition
The leg should narrow smoothly. A sudden drop can look pinched, while too little taper can look like a straight-leg trouser.
Test the cuff
Stretch the cuff to check that the foot passes through easily, then confirm it returns to shape. A cuff that is too tight is uncomfortable, and one that is too loose loses the jogger shape.

Try movement
Walk, sit, squat and climb a step. Watch for tightness at the knee and ankle, and for fabric bunching behind the knee.
Consider the fabric
Stretch fabrics allow a closer taper. Woven or rigid fabrics usually need a little more room.
Check length
Check how the cuff sits at the ankle with typical footwear to confirm the inseam suits the style.
